“We are saddened by the news today that our Compadre, Dusty Hill, has passed away in his sleep at home in Houston, TX. We, along with legions of ZZ Top fans around the world, will miss your steadfast presence, your good nature and enduring commitment to providing that monumental bottom to the ‘Top’. We will forever be connected to that ‘Blues Shuffle in C.’ You will be missed greatly, amigo,” said Billy Gibbons and Frank Beard.

Earlier in the month, the two played performances without Dusty Hill and said that he needed medical attention regarding an alleged hip issue, but that per his request, the band would continue on without him.

Dusty Hill was born in Dallas in 1949, and he played in local bands before joining ZZ Top in Houston back in 1970, staying in the group for over five decades. They celebrated their 50th anniversary together in February of 2020.

The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004.

Our thoughts are with Dusty Hill‘s loved ones at this difficult time. We have sadly lost all of these stars in 2021.
