Atlanta Police Charge Suspect In Fatal Shooting Of Rapper King Von

The Atlanta Police Department have charged Timothy Leeks, 22, with felony murder in the shooting of rapper King Von. As previously reported, Chicago rapper King Von, 26, real name Dayvon Daquan Bennett, died after a shooting at a nightclub in Atlanta early Friday morning (Nov. 6th).

On Saturday (Nov.7), Atlanta police announced that they have arrest warrants for Timothy Leeks for felony murder. He is currently in custody at Grady Hospital where he is recovering from a gunshot wound. A spokesperson for Atlanta police said,

“Mr. Leeks is in police custody at Grady Hospital where he is undergoing treatment for a gunshot wound. The homicide of Bennett is closed with this arrest.”

Police have confirmed that two people were killed while a third victim remains in critical condition.

King Von

Reportedly, King Von and a group of men left Opium nightclub and headed to Monaco Hookah Lounge. While there, two men approached the group in the parking lot and the groups started to argue. The argument then escalated into gunfire. During the altercation, there were two off- duty officers who were working security at the hookah lounge as well as one on-duty officer nearby. None of the officers were injured. Reportedly, King Von was fatally shot in the club’s parking lot prior to the officers’ involvement.

According to police, King Von was not found at  the scene, but later arrived at a hospital. Police said,

“Additionally, Mr. Bennett was not located at the scene, but arrived at a hospital shortly after the shooting, via private vehicle.”

Michael Jackson Sexual Abuse Accuser Loses Lawsuit

A US judge has ruled in favor of the late Michael Jackson and dismissed claims from one of his accusers.

James Safechuck, 42, claimed he and other children were abused due to the negligence of Michael Jackson’s companies, however, the case was dismissed by a judge who said the companies weren’t responsible.

James Safechuck claimed he was abused, starting at the age of 10 years old. In 2014, James Safechuck sued MJJ Productions and MJJ Ventures for allowing the abuse to happen.

Safechuck has become one of the more notable voices who have spoken out against Jackson. He made an appearance in the Leaving Neverland documentary produced in 2019 as one of two men that accused Michael Jackson of abuse.

Safechuck alleged he was abused hundreds of times at the late pop star homes. While there have been several claims of sexual abuse against Michale Jackson, there have also been several who have come out in support of the singer such as Macaulay Culkin.

It’s unknown the amount of damages that Mr. Safechuck is seeking, however, reportedly he is set to appeal the decision. Though vocal in later years, originally Safechuck reportedly served as a witness and defended Jackson against sexual abuse allegations when they first began in 1993.

Tyra Banks may be making some changes to Dancing With the Stars in the future.  According to a source, the model allegedly wants the show to aim higher than reality stars, namely “Real Housewives”.

Reportedly, a source tells OK! that

“Tyra has never been a fan of the Housewives, but the real reason she doesn’t want them on her show is that Bethenny Frankel, NeNe Leakes and Teresa Giudice do not make headlines anymore.”

Dancing With the Stars has seen its fair share of celebrities, including those who’ve become huge reality stars like Tamar Braxton, Nene Leakes, and Snooki from MTV’s Jersey Shore.

However, the source says

“Tyra wants reality stars like Carole Baskin from Tiger King— not a decade-old franchise that no one talks about anymore. If Tyra thought for one minute that the Housewives would get her show ratings, she would welcome them to the dance floor in a second.”

The source added,

“Tyra is the new boss and made it clear that she didn’t want any more Housewives in her ballroom. She thinks the show needs to aim higher and only book the ladies after everyone else has passed. Several ladies from the Bravo franchise have already made it clear that they would love to put on their dancing shoes, but Tyra doesn’t want any of them right now.”

As people continue to discuss allegations that Ice Cube is endorsing Donald Trump, the N.W.A. rapper turned actor keeps disputing these claims.  The latest incident was a manipulated photo tweeted by Eric Trump of Ice Cube sitting next to 50 Cent wearing hats with “TRUMP” across them.

It’s unclear if the now-deleted tweet was posted in a joking or serious manner but Eric Trump said,

Two great, courageous, Americans!  @icecube @50cent

Ice Cube responded,

The original photo, uploaded by a Twitter user, shows Cube and 50 Cent with a BIG 3 and NY Yankees hat on, respectively.

Ice Cube (born O’shea Jackson) has recently been the center of much backlash over his collaboration with the Trump administration to discuss developing Trump’s “Platinum Plan,” an effort to reportedly help improve the lives of Black Americans.  In his Sep. 25 speech in Atlanta, GA, Trump detailed his intention to roll out his plan, saying in part,

“If you vote Republican over the next four years, we will create 3 million new jobs for the black community, open 500,000 new black-owned businesses, increase access to capital in black communities by 500 billion dollars, build up peaceful and safer urban neighborhoods with the highest standards of –and you know this–of policing. We want the highest standards. We have to have [the] highest standards of policing.”

Cube’s contribution, a 22-page detailed proposal known as the Contract With Black America, was open for discussion with both republican and democratic parties, according to Ice Cube, but it was Trump’s administration who rose to the occasion with a sense of urgency.

He said,

Rappers penning songs for other artists isn’t something new in the music industry.  Perhaps Lil Yachty caught heat because he wrote the song for two females, but even that has been done plenty of times in the past.

As an example, the classic 1996 Lil Kim hit “Crush On You” was written by Dipset rapper Cam’ron.  Though the song was originally written for rapper Lil Cease who also featured on the track, it ended up with one of the highest chart topping female MCs in the hip hop industry.

Amanda Seals is not too happy with some of her critics and is firing back. The 39-year-old actress/activist posted a video on her Instagram addressing some of her critics who claimed she was a non- foundational black person. In a now viral clip, Amanda is seen explaining her cultural background and lineage. She said,

“By the way, stop f** saying that I am a non-foundational black person. Ya’ll keep trying to come up with ways to undermine the validity of my voice and I am really tired of it. I was born in America, my mother is from Grenada, my father is from Boston. I am the descendant of shackled slavery in the west indies and in America.  I don’t need to keep explaining this but I’m going to do it this one last time. –I’m also a f** genius so there are a couple different reasons here why I should be listened to. “

Amanda continued,

“One, because I’m smart like a mother**. Two, Because I am the descendant of ancestors who have been through the traumas that we are trying to undo right now. And three, because I’m an authentic Mother** and I speak from the heart every G****time. Anybody who’s got something to say to me about otherwise can go suck a bag of d*** because your point of view has no merit because it is not grounded in anything foundational black or otherwise.”

Amanda Seals is no stranger at speaking her mind and voicing her opinion. Just last month, she accused The Real talk show of stealing her “Smart Black & Funny” concept. She posted a message on social media, sharing a screen shot of The Real cast with a graphic that read “Black Lives Matter University”. She shared another image of her “Smart Funny & Black” brand. She captioned the post:

“Once again therealdaytime demonstrates it’s low class and even lower vibration. Meghan Markle and husband Prince Harry appeared on the Teenage Therapy podcast Saturday (Oct.10) to raise awareness for World Mental Health Day. The Duchess of Sussex opened up about her struggles with online bullying and the pressures of social media. She said,

I’m told that in 2019 I was the most trolled person in the entire world-male or female. Now eight months of that I wasn’t even visible. I was on maternity leave or with a baby but what was able to just be manufactured and churned out, it’s almost unsurvivable. That’s so big you can’t even think about what that feels like because I don’t care if you’re 15 or 25 if people are saying things about you that aren’t true what that does to your mental and emotional health is so damaging.”

Later in the interview, Prince Harry spoke on how he navigates through the negativity that comes along with being a Royal. He said,

“Hate following has become a thing, you don’t need to do that. Just as much as we worry about, be concerned, and take notice of what we put in our bellies as a diet, the same applies for our eyes and our mind, what we’re consuming is affecting us.”

Harry continued,

“For me, I made the choice not to read it, not to see it, and to remove myself from that, and to very much focus on the uplifting and the hopeful side.”

Sadly, it looks like the iconic Geto Boys rap group member Scarface (born Brad Jordan) is having more health issues on the heels of recovering from COVID-19. This time he’s reaching out and asking for help on social media.

The “Mind Is Playing Tricks On Me” rapper took to his Twitter account to post,

I need a kidney y’all any volunteers? B+ blood type

Fans on Twitter jumped to his aid, either offering information on healing himself or personally offering their own kidney.  Read some of the reactions below.

In March, Scarface revealed that he had contracted the coronavirus, recalling his experience during an interview with his fellow group member Willie D. He said,

“It’s the craziest sh*t I’ve ever done and seen in my life. I’ve been to the point where I felt I was gonna die, bro. I threw up so much until it was like hot, hot sauce. Like your gases and shit from your stomach. I didn’t have no food in my stomach, it was coming up like vile. I couldn’t breathe, Will.”

The native Houston rapper further expressed to his viewers,

“Don’t play no games with it. I haven’t been nowhere. I’ve been in my house. I ain’t been on no planes, I ain’t been in no restaurants… People out there thinking this shit is a game? You don’t want to play with this.”

During his recovery process, on April 27, the rapper updated the public on his health condition, revealing the complications he’s had due to COVID-19.

“I’m glad to be alive. I fought COVID double bilateral pneumonia – both lungs – and kidney failure in my house.”

Scarface, who had recently returned home from the hospital at that time, added

“I gotta do dialysis four days a week, three hours a day. That’s taking all my blood out, cleaning it and putting it back in my body.”

It was then that he revealed the seriousness of his kidney condition.  He admitted

“COVID attacked my lungs first, and then it attacked my kidneys and knocked them out. I got full lung recovery, but my kidneys never came back.”

In a recent interview, Consequence shared his lupus diagnosis and expressed that he has what

‘J Dilla had and what Phife [Dawg] had as a combo happy meal’.

Body shaming has been a running thread throughout social media problems.  In the shocking and sudden passing of actor Chadwick Boseman, it was revealed that he died after a battle with cancer not longer after a photo surfaced on social media where he was also body shamed for his drastic weight loss.

CNN commentator Angela Rye, who moderated the event, quickly corrected the California senator, reminding her that Tupac is no longer living.

“He’s not alive! You said, He lives on…Listen, West Coast girls think Tupac lives on; I’m with you,”

Angela replied.

President Donald Trump has selected Judge Amy Coney Barrett, a conservative federal appeals court judge to replace Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. The announcement was made Saturday (Sept. 26), just one week after the passing of Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Reportedly, Donald Trump will try to force Senate confirmation in hopes of having a conservative-leaning judge in place just weeks before Election Day. Trump spoke very highly of Judge Barrett during his announcement in the White House Rose Garden. Trump stated,

“Today it is my honor to nominate one of our nation’s most brilliant and gifted legal minds to the Supreme Court.–She is a woman of unparalleled achievement, towering intellect, sterling credentials and unyielding loyalty to the Constitution.”

 

Judge Amy Coney Barrett, (48), is a member of the Chicago-based 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals and a former law clerk for the late Justice Antonin Scalia. A finalist for a previous Supreme Court opening that went to Justice Brett Kavanaugh. She was seen as a likely choice given her conservative credentials, strong support among Republican senators and the president’s desire to nominate a woman to succeed the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. President Trump called the late Justice Ginsburg a “legal giant and a pioneer for women” and said that making his third nomination to the court was a “very proud moment.” Amy Coney Barrett will be the fifth woman ever appointed to the court and second conservative.

 

Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg passed away on Friday (September 18) as a result of complications from metastatic pancreas cancer. She was the second woman to serve as a judge in the Supreme Court and because of her fearless stance on various controversial issues including voting rights, immigration, and abortion rights, she became known as “The Notorious RBG.”

 

Donald Trump made headlines this week while attending Judge Ginsburg’s funeral on Wednesday (Sept. 23). He was seen being booed by the crowd while paying his respects to the late Judge.
