Melissa McCarthy apologises after supporting anti-abortion anti-LGBT charity

Melissa McCarthy has apologised on Instagram after supporting a charity that she says "stands for everything that we do not".

Last week the Bridesmaids actress announced that she would be launching a "20 Days of Kindness" campaign with HBO Max. Every day they are donating $20,000 USD to a different charity, and encouraging viewers to do the same.

The list of charities that McCarthy shared included one called Exodus Cry, a conservative evangelical group dedicated to "abolishing sex trafficking and breaking the cycle of commercial sexual exploitation while assisting and empowering its victims," according to its website.

Fans were very quick to point out that this charity is steadfastly anti-abortion and against LGBT rights. Exodus Cry's CEO once called abortion a "holocaust" and referred to same-sex marriage as "an unspeakable offence to God".

Two days after their announcement, McCarthy took to Instagram to reveal they were removing Exodus Cry from their list of charities.

"It has come to our attention that our 20 Days of Kindness, which is a kindness hub that we started to shine a light on 20 great charities, had one in there that … there's no other way to say it, we blew it," she said in a short video posted to Instagram. "We made a mistake and we backed a charity that, upon proper vetting, stands for everything that we do not."

https://www.instagram.com/tv/CHg6G7ugYi-/?utm_source=ig_embed

She thanked vigilant fans for bringing it to their attention and "helping us be better," adding, "We're sorry for our mistake ― oh boy, are we sorry for it."

Other charitable groups included in the 20 Days Of Kindness campaign include Best Friends Animal Society, Habitat for Humanity and Planned Parenthood.

Russell Crowe pays tribute to the RFS for saving his property during the bushfires a year ago

Russell Crowe has thanked the New South Wales Rural Fire Service (RFS) for saving his property in the bushfire one year ago.

The Aussie actor recalled the devastating events exactly 12 months on from when fires surrounded bushland around his Nana Glen home on the north coast of NSW.

Russell Crowe, bushfire, residents, Nana Glen, NSW

"One year ago today. All this was on fire. From ridge forward is my land," he tweeted along with a photo of the Nana Glen valley, which is 25km west of Coffs Harbour.

"The arrow is my house. The liberation trail fire wrapped around it on 3 sides. Only smart forward planning and the selfless efforts of the local volunteer ⁦@NSWRFS⁩ saved Nana Glen. Cheers to them."

https://twitter.com/russellcrowe/status/1326812229396619264

Crowe was not at home when the fires ravaged his property, nor was he in the country.

"I'm not in Australia," he confirmed on Twitter at the time. "My family are safe, billeted with friends. Fire hit my place late in the day yesterday. My heart goes out to everyone in the valley."

https://twitter.com/russellcrowe/status/1194296326676201472

In a follow-up tweet, he wrote, "Lost a couple of buildings, but overall very lucky so far. Chapel roof scorched. Deepest thanks to everyone on the ground. Some fires still burning and we are out of water. No livestock deaths to date. Horses ok. Let the chickens out and they are back, warm worms for breakfast!"

https://twitter.com/russellcrowe/status/1194387339642068993

Immediately after hearing the news, the Gladiator star made his way back to Australia in an attempt to assess the damage. With some mates in tow, Crowe and his crew hopped on quad bikes but they were met with many road obstacles.

"So we're up here trying to get up to this ridge road, but we keep coming across things like that," he said in the clip, while moving trees and branches from the dirt track leading up to his property. "So I've got a few boys behind me chopping through with a chainsaw, but I don't think we brought enough chainsaws, I can feel, because we've got a long way to go to get to where we're supposed to be.

"Look at this place, mate. Absolutely f---ing smashed."

Russell Crowe inspects bushfire damage to property

While Crowe was lucky his property was saved, the 2019-2020 bushfire season destroyed 2439 homes in NSW alone as of February 2020, with thousands of additional facilities and outbuildings also engulfed in flames.

The Veronicas postpone Sydney show due to mother's health: 'Deeply sensitive time for our family'

The Veronicas have cancelled an upcoming Sydney show to care for their sick mother, Colleen.

Lisa and Jessica Origliasso were scheduled to perform in Sydney on November 18 but have postponed their gig to make their way up to Brisbane, where their mother lives.

The Veronicas postpone Sydney show, Instagram Stories, statement, caring for sick mum

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the twins are required to quarantine in the Northern NSW town of Byron Bay before they are allowed entry into Queensland.

"We are needed back home in Brisbane to be with our mummy," they wrote in a note posted to Instagram Stories. "And due to covid restrictions, we have left Sydney and started our quarantine in Double Bay.

"We know most of you understand that this is a deeply sensitive time for our family. That requires priority."

The Veronicas postpone Sydney show, Instagram Stories, statement

The twins' mother, Colleen, suffers from Lewy Body Dementia — a condition similar to Alzheimer's Disease that affects the patient's motor and cognitive skills and can cause tremors, stiffness as well as confused states.

During National Carers Week last month, Jess and Lisa opened up about the challenges they face caring for their mum — and it's not just the physical but also the emotional demands that have taken a toll on them.

"Caring for Mama is the most challenging thing we've ever had to do [but] it's definitely the most rewarding," Lisa said in the clip as ambassadors of National Carers Week. "I think we're really lucky that we have each other. On the days where it's emotional, and it's indescribably hard, we can really count on each other to understand.

"I think, in that regard, I know how important it is as a carer to have the support to be able to know that there is someone out there that gets it too and just to be able to relate and give you a hug."

The Veronicas, Jessica and Lisa Origliasso and mum Colleen

Their Sydney show may be postponed until 2021, but The Veronicas announced a replacement gig in Bryon Bay for fans in the meantime.

"We have a replacement show in Bryon Bay where we are quarantining," they said on Instagram Stories of the November 17 event.

"It will be acoustic and as intimate as we can get with our clothes on."

Zach Braff praises the way girlfriend Florence Pugh defended their age gap

Zach Braff is opening up about his relationship with actress Florence Pugh.

The Scrubs star, 45, recently weighed in on the age gap he shares with Pugh after she recorded a video message directed at their online critics. Pugh is 24 years old.

"She literally sat down, hit record on her phone and said that," Braff said in an interview with Mr Porter's magazine. "I thought, 'How could I possibly follow anything as intelligent and articulate as that?' So, I chose not to."

In April, the Little Women actress asked all her trolls to unfollow her and defended herself against the bullies on social media.

"I will not allow that behaviour on my page. During this time when we really all need to be together, we need to be supporting one another, we need to be loving one another," she said in an Instagram video on April 9. "The world is aching and the world is dying and a few of you decided to bully for no reason.

"I do not need you to tell me who I should and should not love, and I would never in my life, ever, ever tell anyone who they can and cannot love. It is not your place, and really it has nothing to do with you."

The following month, Pugh discussed the backlash she'd copped over her relationship with Braff.

"I have the right to hang out and be with and go out with anyone I want to. I've always found this part of what people do really bizarre," she said in an interview for Elle UK's June 2020 issue. "I'm an actor because I like acting and I don't mind people watching my stuff, but people have no right to educate me on my private life."

Pugh swiftly shot to fame after earning an Oscar nomination for her performance in Little Women.

"I know that part of being in the spotlight is that people might invade your privacy and have opinions on it, but it's bizarre that normal folk are allowed to display such hate and opinions on a part of my life that I'm not putting out there," she said. "It's a strange side of fame that you're allowed to be torn apart by thousands of people even though you didn't put that piece of you out there. My point to all this is that isn't it odd that a stranger can totally tear apart someone's relationship and it's allowed?"

Steve LoCascio, President of CBS Television Distribution said in a statement: "Words can't even describe what a tremendous loss this is for our Jeopardy! family. Not only was Alex a television icon, but he was one of the most genuine, kind, caring people you could ever know. The way he openly and bravely battled cancer, while continuing to host the show, was a true inspiration. He has brought joy to the millions of fans — including generations of families — who have welcomed Alex into their living room each night. Our hearts go out to Alex's wife and children. Gwyneth Paltrow is now selling a lamp made out of bread

If you've ever wished you could buy a lamp made out of bread, you're finally in luck.

Gwyneth Paltrow is now selling a lamp - made from real bread - for a whopping £160 ($290).

The actress is known for her, uh, interesting, choice in homewares. Earlier this year she was selling a candle that 'smells like her vagina' on her lifestyle website Goop.

And now, according to her website, she's branching out into lighting. The bread lamp for sale on Goop is fully-functional, despite being an actual loaf of bread.

The 'Batard Bread Lamp' is made from bread flour, cake flour, salt, yeast, baked into a baguette, then dipped in resin to stop it from decomposing. It's got a cord to plug into the wall and even a dimmer switch if you want to set the mood.

"Found: the perfect gift for anyone with a sourdough starter – or a love of whimsical home décor," reads the product description.

"Handcrafted in Japan, this loaf-shaped lamp is made of actual bread (don't worry, it's thoroughly coated in resin to prevent any pests from getting at it) and a LED light that radiates a warm, comforting glow in whatever room it's in."

Though it's a bizarre homeware option, no doubt it'll sell out quickly. Her vagina candle – priced at $103 – sold out within hours and many more fans signed up for a waiting list. A few months later she introduced another candle to the Goop site, this one named 'This Smells Like My Orgasm'.

Then the third candle in the range came along, described as a "gorgeous blend of invigorating grapefruit and sexy, citrusy bergamot" and was called This Smells Like My Prenup.

Elsewhere on Goop you'll find a $3,000 ouija board and $45 toilet paper.

"As I was leaving, he was going to the bathroom, so our paths crossed. I took the opportunity to chat to him as I had nothing to lose."

Golding popped the question while they were on holiday in Thailand in 2015, and they married a year later.

The actor was set to film the Crazy Rich Asians sequel in Singapore this year, but it was delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Rapper King Von killed in Atlanta shooting

Chicago rapper King Von, whose debut album Welcome to O'Block was released on Oct. 30, died early Friday morning US time in a shooting incident in Atlanta that also killed two other men. He was 26.

The rapper, whose real name was Dayvon Bennett, was visiting the Monaco Hookah Lounge on 255 Trinity Avenue when two men approached his group. The altercation soon devolved into gunfire and six men were shot, three, including Bennett, fatally. Officers from the Atlanta Police Department responded, also firing shots during the course of the altercation.

Celebrities and fans took to social media on Friday to mourn King Von's death. Artists like Chance The Rapper, Lil Yachty, Big Sean and YG gave their condolences. Chance also took a moment to comment on the perceived politicisation of King Von's death.

"It always takes something happening close to home to realise how quickly folks on twitter politicise, romanticise or pseudo socially analyse real things that happen to real people," he wrote. "Everything doesn't have to have a immediate lesson for twitter, sometimes it just happened."

https://twitter.com/chancetherapper/status/1324763083726901256?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1324763083726901256%7Ctwgr%5Eshare_3&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.billboard.com%2Farticles%2Fcolumns%2Fhip-hop%2F9479791%2Fking-von-death-celebrities-react%2F

"At this time, our investigators believe Mr. Bennett was shot during the initial shootout between the two groups of males, prior to police responding and attempting to stop the shooting," the Atlanta police told the New York Times. "Part of the investigations will include determining which individuals were struck by gunfire from the suspects and whether any were struck by gunfire from the officers."

Of the responding responding officers, the New York Times reported that two were working security while off duty and one was on duty and patrolling nearby. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said it is is looking into the officers' conduct.

King Von had recently found streaming success with his mixtapes, two of which were released this year. The Chicago native's most streamed song, 'Took Her To The O,' and latest album, 'Welcome to O'Block,' reference a rough area of the city where he grew up.

The rapper recently relocated to Atlanta in pursuit of his music career. He and Lil Durk were arrested on an attempted murder charge from last year that remained open after the two were released on bond.

King Von was part of Lil Durk's Only The Family collective and was also signed with EMPIRE. A statement shared by EMPIRE on Twitter states, "We are fortunate to have witnessed [King Von's] growth and evolution, but know he had so much more to give to the world."

Amanda Kloots shares her and son's nightly ritual honouring late husband Nick Cordero

Amanda Kloots has shared a heartbreaking tribute to her late husband, Nick Cordero, four months after his death.

The Broadway actor and singer died on July 5 from coronavirus complications at the age of 41. He was in intensive care for 13 weeks prior to his death.

Kloots, a fitness instructor, has shared a sweet family photo in tribute to her husband. The couple shared a now-one-year-old son, Elvis.

"This was one year ago," the mother of one captioned the shot. "I really miss my person. Today is 4 months without you Nick."

"Elvis and I play your music everyday, we kiss your photograph every night and hope you visit us in our dreams," she added. "We love and miss you honey."

Prior to his death, Cordero spent weeks in intensive care where he was put into a medically induced coma, had his right leg amputated, was given a temporary pacemaker, lost more than 29kg, and was preparing for the possibility of a double lung transplant.

Kloots announced his death on Instagram in July, after he spent 95 days in hospital.

"I am in disbelief and hurting everywhere," she wrote. "My heart is broken as I cannot imagine our lives without him. Nick was such a bright light. He was everyone's friend, loved to listen, help and especially talk."

The couple married in 2017 and welcomed their son in 2019.

Kloots recently shared that she had a flower vase made from Cordero's ashes, as a way to remember him.

"Elvis and I put our handprints into the clay before it was fired," she said. "I intend to always keep flowers in this vase, reminding me of Nick every time I look at it."

https://www.instagram.com/p/CG8hkaXHQIj/

Kloots has recently spoken out about the importance of Americans voting in the presidential election, especially for others whose lives were impacted by the coronavirus.

"To all the over 208,000 Americans who lost loved ones to this virus — I stand by you, with you, holding your hand," Kloots began in an Instagram post.

"Unfortunately it did dominate our lives didn't it? It dominated Nick's family's lives and my family's lives. I guess we 'let it' — like it was our choice?? Unfortunately, not everyone is lucky enough to spend two days in the hospital. I cried next to my husband for 95 days watching what COVID did to the person I love. It IS something to be afraid of."

Kylie Minogue reveals she nearly recorded a song with legendary musician Prince back in the '90s

Kylie Minogue almost fulfilled the collaboration of her dreams with music icon Prince, but sadly it wasn't meant to be.

The 52-year-old Aussie singer met the musician backstage after one of his shows in London back in the '90s and they hit it off instantly. In fact, they connected so well that they set out to record a track together.

"As a 14-year-old hormonally-charged music maniac, Prince was it," she explained in an interview with Apple Music host Zane Lowe.

"And then I went to see his show ... and got to meet him afterwards, and I don't know where I plucked up the courage from, but I said, 'I'm making an album....' I don't know what I said — no idea! This was before phones and stuff. I'm more gutsy than I kind of make out sometimes, even to myself."

Kylie Minogue

To her surprise, Prince was keen to collaborate. And after hanging out on several occasions, he wanted to make it happen.

"I had an almost dream come true [collaboration], which was with Prince," she said. "We just kind of hung out. I don't even know what that means, but we hung out and he kind of put me on the spot a bit. He was like, 'So where are your lyrics?'"

Minogue recalled scrawling down lyrics to a song called 'Baby Doll', which Prince then recorded in his own time before sending the cassette with his recording to her apartment.

Prince performs after being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004.

"He who slept four hours a night or something and just created stuff the rest of the other 20 hours. That was my almost, we didn't record it," she said. "I suggested it to my label and I think he would want it to do it all and they weren't into that. That was that. I might've been kind of gutsy, but I wasn't ... I wasn't sure enough of myself to say, 'No.'"

Prince collaborated with a host of big-name artists in his time, including Madonna, Amy Winehouse and Lenny Kravitz.

In 2016, the legendary musician died at his home in Paisley Park, Minnesota, from a reported accidental overdose. He was 57.

"Because I believe in climate change. I believe in systemic racism. I believe in freedom of speech and the right to assemble. I believe in gun control. I believe that women have a right to make choices about their own bodies. I believe people have the right to live and love and identify however they feel in their hearts without fear. I believe that people care about each other."

Last year, Stewart admitted during an interview with Howard Stern that she is in love and "can't f---king wait" to get married one day.

The couple were first linked in mid-2019, following Stewart's split from model Stella Maxwell.

Actress Julianne Hough officially files for divorce from Brooks Laich despite recent reconciliation attempt

Actress and former US Dancing With the Stars pro Julianne Hough is putting an end to her three-year marriage with Brooks Laich.

According to TMZ, the 32-year-old officially filed for divorce from the former NHL player just six months after the pair announced their separation

"We have lovingly and carefully taken the time we have needed to arrive at our decision to separate," read the couple's statement released in May. "We share an abundance of love and respect for one another and will continue to lead with our hearts from that place. We kindly request your compassion and respect for our privacy moving forward."

But just three months later, they appeared to have reconciled when they were seen having lunch together in LA, after Laich returned from Idaho where he had been quarantining alone. Around the same time, the former ice hockey star also helped Hough celebrate her 32nd birthday, with the couple looking flirty in a series of Instagram Stories.

"Feeling super loved right now," she captioned one image.

Just last month, they were also seen vacationing in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho — the same place they tied the knot three years ago.

The news would shock many who believed the couple were back on track. But according to People, Hough still had reservations about rekindling their relationship.

"Brooks really still wants to make it work and she's considering it but taking her time. He's open to whatever it will take," a source said. "Julianne likes the idea of freedom but doesn't want to lose such a good, solid guy. Everyone who knows him knows how grounded and great he is. Her friends and family don't want her to lose someone like that."

This season of Grey's Anatomy might be its final one, according to Ellen Pompeo

Ellen Pompeo has given a candid and in-depth interview about Grey's Anatomy –– and revealed that this season of the show might be the last.

The 50-year-old spoke to Variety about her 17-season stint on the show, which premiered back in 2004. Pompeo, who plays the titular character Meredith Grey, casually dropped a major bomb, saying that she had no official confirmation on when the show would end but: "the truth is, this year could be it".

"This is the last year of my contract right now," she explained. "I don't know that this is the last year? But it could very well could be."

She went on to say that this potential end-date looming so close is inspiring her and the rest of the cast to create the best show possible.

"I'm constantly fighting for the show as a whole to be as good as it can be. Everything is really important to me –– that the show is good, and that all the characters' storylines are good. I care very much about the integrity of the show, and the stories that we tell, and the quality."

This season of Grey's Anatomy will focus around the coronavirus pandemic, showrunner Krista Vernoff has revealed. "There's no way to be a long-running medical show and not do the medical story of our lifetimes," she said.

Pompeo spoke at length about her last 16 years on the show, and spilled some excellent behind-the-scenes intel. She says that as soon as she met Patrick Dempsey for their screen test, she immediately felt the chemistry between them.

"I was like, 'It's got to be this guy. This is the guy.' We had instant chemistry from the minute we met."

She also spoke about how incredibly diverse the Grey's cast is, especially back in 2004 when the show first aired.

Shonda Rhimes, the show's creator "was really making such a political statement already," Pompeo said. "She was hiring a Korean actress as the lead, and Black actresses and Black actors as leads," she explained, referring to Sandra Oh and Isaiah Washington.

"And we weren't making a thing about it. We weren't talking about it! Shonda famously said, 'I just saw all types for all roles. And I just cast the best actor for the part.'"

Pompeo rounded out the interview by promising fans that season 17 of Grey's is the best one yet.

"I'm really, really, really excited about this season, and that's all I can say about that. And it's probably going to be one of our best seasons ever. And I know that sounds nuts to say, but it's really true."
