Broadway Theaters & 2021 Emmy Awards Will Require Audience Members to Show Proof of Vaccination

It was reported earlier this summer that Broadway shows were eying a Fall 2021 opening date and now The Broadway League has announced new guidelines audiences members will have to follow when attending shows.

According to Deadline, 41 Broadway theaters will require vaccinations for theater-goers as well as performers, crew members and theater staff for performances through October 2021.

Audience members will also need to wear masks inside the theaters, except while eating or drinking in designated areas.

Charlotte St. Martin, President of the Broadway League, said in a statement that the new policy “makes it simple for our audiences and should give even more confidence to our guests about how seriously Broadway is taking audience safety.”

The requirements will last until the fall and undergo a review in September 2021, which could include “a relaxation of certain provisions if the science dictates.”

Exceptions will be made for children under 12 and people with a medical condition or religious belief that prevents vaccination. These guests will need to provide proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR test within 72 hours of performance start time or a negative antigen test taken within 6 hours of the performance start time.

The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences also announced on Friday (July 20) that those attending the 2021 Emmy Awards would be required to show proof of vaccination.

They also reiterated their previous plans, telling guests that only nominees and their plus-ones would be permitted to attend one of the three ceremonies that are being held this year.

Cedric the Entertainer is taking on hosting duties this year. The 2021 Emmy Awards will air live on Sunday, September 19 at 8/7c on CBS, and will also stream live and on demand on Paramount+.

Scarlett Johansson's Agent Calls Out Disney Amid Lawsuit

Scarlett Johansson‘s agent is tearing into Disney.

“I want to address the Walt Disney Company’s statement that was issued in response to the lawsuit filed against them yesterday by our client Scarlett Johansson. They have shamelessly and falsely accused Ms. Johansson of being insensitive to the global COVID pandemic, in an attempt to make her appear to be someone they and I know she isn’t,” he said.

“Scarlett has been Disney’s partner on nine movies, which have earned Disney and its shareholders billions. The company included her salary in their press statement in an attempt to weaponize her success as an artist and businesswoman, as if that were something she should be ashamed of. Scarlett is extremely proud of the work that she, and all of the actors, writers, directors, producers, and the Marvel creative team have been a part of for well over a decade,” he continued.

“This suit was filed as a result of Disney’s decision to knowingly violate Scarlett’s contract. They have very deliberately moved the revenue stream and profits to the Disney+ side of the company, leaving artistic and financial partners out of their new equation. That’s it, pure and simple. Disney’s direct attack on her character and all else they implied is beneath the company that many of us in the creative community have worked with successfully for decades.”

The clip opens with Charles (Joe Lo Truglia) and Jake Peralta (Andy Samberg) discussing the end of their partnership.

“I’m scared that my time with you will be cut short,” Charles tells Jake. “No more stakeouts or drinks after a long shift, or midnight calls when you’ve had a breakthrough in a case. I’ve always had this image of us in our nineties, hunting down criminals at the retirement home… But I guess that was just a dumb fantasy.”

The trailer then shows all the hilarious schemes the crew gets up to, from daycare shenanigans to handling a group of Hictchcocks and Scullys.

Andy Samberg said in an interview last fall that the new season would find the show’s characters trying to navigate their roles in the world.

“The challenge is going to be being honest about what is going on in the world and not shying away from the fact that there are serious problems and also not punishing viewers who like our show and care about our characters,” he explained, adding that the show would not shy away from police brutality storylines.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine premieres August 12 at 8 p.m. ET on NBC, with episodes airing back-to-back each Thursday.
