Here's Why 'Succession' Season 3 Will Not Directly Address the COVID-19 Pandemic

Fans should not expect any of the Roys to be wearing masks in the upcoming season of Succession.

According to a new report from Vulture, the new season of the show will not directly address the COVID-19 pandemic as creator Jesse Armstrong wrote the third season before quarantine began and decided not to alter the scripts.

As for why the series won’t tackle COVID-19, actress Sarah Snook explained, “These are really wealthy people. And unfortunately, none of the world’s really wealthy people were going to be affected by the pandemic.’”

However, the pandemic did have a significant impact on the show.

Mark Blum, who played cruise-division executive Bill Lockhart, died of COVID related complications in March 2020. Series stars Alan Ruck and Brian Cox also contracted the virus.

Earlier this week, HBO confirmed that the third season of the show would be released in October, though they did not specify an exact release date.

A trailer at the upcoming season dropped last month, giving fans a new look at the “family civil war” that takes place.

There are several additions to the cast of the show, including Adrian Brody as Josh Aaronson, a billionaire activist investor who plays a pivotal role in the battle for Waystar, as well Alexander Skarsgard as Lukas Matsson, a successful tech CEO.

One of the producers for Succession recently revealed how many seasons the show will likely have. Check it out
