Kris Wu has been detained by police.
The 30-year-old Chinese superstar, known for being both a rapper and an actor, was recently accused of rape in some claims made on social media by a 19-year-old college student.
Variety reports that female sexual assault victims in China usually end up in drawn-out civil suits rather than criminal suits, so this move by the Beijing police marks a new milestone in how the country is starting to treat these types of allegations.

The Beijing Chaoyang district police released on as statement on the social media website Weibo. They said, “In response to internet reports ‘Wu Xfan has repeatedly tricked young women into having sex’ and other related issues, after police investigations, Wu Xfan (male, 30, Canadian) has been detained for the suspected crime of rape in accordance with the law.”
Kris shot to fame as a member of the K-Pop group Exo and later pursued a solo career in China, where he has led several blockbuster hits. He also had roles in Hollywood movies like xXx: Return of Xander Cage and Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets. In addition, he has business relationships with several high-profile brands, including Louis Vuitton.
