Jay-Z Reveals Why He Waited Until He Was an Adult to Learn How to Swim

Jay-Z‘s entire life changed when he became a dad.

In HBO Max’s new series The Shop: Uninterrupted, the 51-year-old entertainer revealed that he decided to learn how to swim after wife Beyonce gave birth to the couple’s first child Blue Ivy in 2012.

“It’s amazing. It’s a very grounding thing,” Jay said about becoming a dad.

“I didn’t learn how to swim until Blue was born. There goes everything you need to know,” Jay continued. “This is a metaphor for our relationship. If she ever fell in the water and I couldn’t get her, I couldn’t even fathom that thought. I gotta learn how to swim. That’s it. That was the beginning of our relationship.”

Along with Blue, Jay and the 39-year-old entertainer are also parents to twins Rumi and Sir, who were born in 2017.
