Fergie was a trending topic on Twitter on Saturday morning (January 2) and it’s because people were first finding out that she wasn’t an original member of the Black Eyed Peas!
While many people probably assume that Fergie was with the group since they started, she was actually a replacement for singer Kim Hill.
The group was formed in 1995 and Hill left while the second album was being produced in 2000. Fergie joined the group in 2002 and stayed with them until 2016. Vocals are now being performed by J. Rey Soul.
A clip from the Black Eyed Peas video for “What It Is” went viral on Twitter on New Year’s Day and people reacted to Hill being the vocalist in the video.
“i was today years old when i learned Fergie was a replacement,” one fan tweeted.
Another fan said “The Black Eyed Peas had a black lead singer before replacing her with Fergie. How am I just now learning this.”
