ABBA‘s back!
The iconic Swedish troupe revealed on Thursday (September 2) that they will be releasing Voyage, a follow-up to 1982′s The Visitors nearly 40 years later – and there’s a big tour coming, too.
The upcoming concert will be a hologram tour, with their digital selves performing their classics on a stage in a custom-built arena with a 10-piece band in London, England beginning on May 27, 2022.
“We simply call it Voyage and we’re truly sailing in uncharted waters. With the help of our younger selves, we travel into the future. It’s not easy to explain but then it hasn’t been done before,” said Benny Anderson.
The digital versions of ABBA were created using months of motion-capture and performance techniques with the four band members, plus an 850 member team from Industrial Light & Magic, the company founded by George Lucas, in the company’s first foray into music.
Ahead of the new album, the group released new singles “I Still Have Faith In You” and “Don’t Shut Me Down,” that will both feature in the concert, which were recorded together at Benny’s studio Riksmixningsverket in Stockholm, Sweden.
Voyage will be released worldwide on November 5.
ABBA Voyage will open on May 27, 2022 at the ABBA Arena, located at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London. Pre-registration for tickets opens at 6 p.m. on abbavoyage.com with tickets on general sale from September 7.
