We Finally Know When 'Shang-Chi' Takes Place in the Marvel Timeline

Fans have been wondering where the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) stands in terms of upcoming films and where they might land in the timeline.

The timeline shifted after Avengers: Endgame, where the film landed in 2023, and since then, only Black Widow has been released as part of the Phase 4 initiative. If you don’t know, Black Widow is a prequel story that takes place on the timeline between the events of Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War.

Fans began to wonder where the next release, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, would stand in the timeline. If it would be post-Thanos blip, or somewhere else.

Click inside to find out the answer…

Director Destin Daniel Cretton was asked when his movie, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, takes place.

Fandango asked, “This is the second film in the MCU’s Phase Four. The first, Black Widow, was a prequel set between Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War. With regards to the MCU timeline, when is Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings set?”

Destin responded, “Shang-Chi is set in the present day in the MCU timeline.”

Fandango then doubled down, clarifying, “Okay. So, like post-Blip, present day, is where we’re at?”

Destin responded, “Yeah, yeah.” There you have it! Be sure to catch the film in theaters on September 3, 2021.

Disney was just involved in a major controversy surrounding the film.
