Former Soap Star Jay Pickett, Of 'Port Charles' & 'General Hospital' Fame, Dies at Age 60

Jay Pickett has sadly died at the age of 60.

The former soap star was working on the set of a new movie when he passed away suddenly.

His death was announced on Facebook by Jim Heffel, his co-star and fellow producer on the movie, called Treasure Valley. Jay was playing a cowboy in search of his long-lost daughter in the movie, which he also wrote.

“I lost a good friend and the world lost a great person,” Jim shared in the post on Facebook. “Jay Pickett decided to ride off into the Heavens. Jay died sitting on a horse ready to rope a steer in the movie Treasure Valley in Idaho. The way of a true cowboy.”

Treasure Valley producer Travis Mills also announced the news on Facebook as well, saying that “there is no official explanation for the cause of his death but it appears to have been a heart attack.”

He added that “Everyone present tried as hard as they could to keep him alive. Our hearts are broken and we grieve for his family who are so devastated by this shocking tragedy.”

“He was doing what he loved: acting, riding horses, making movies. And he was magnificent.”

Jay was known for his portrayals of Frank Scanlon on Port Charles, and Det. David Harper on General Hospital. He also played Dr. Chip Lakin on Days of Our Lives in the early 90s.

Here are all the stars we’ve lost in 2021.
