Val Kilmer Uses Trachea Device to Help Him Speak in 'Val' Trailer - Watch Now

Val Kilmer has rarely spoken about his throat cancer diagnosis, and the ramifications he faced from the illness, but we are now seeing first hand just a glimpse of what he went through.

In the trailer for his new documentary, Val, had difficulty speaking and underwent a tracheostomy to help him amid his recovery.

“I’m still recovering and it is difficult to talk and to be understood,” Val said, speaking through a device in his throat helping him to speak. “But I want to tell my story more than ever.”

Here’s a synopsis for his documentary: For over 40 years Val Kilmer, one of Hollywood’s most mercurial and/or misunderstood actors has been documenting his own life and craft through film and video. He has amassed thousands of hours of footage, from 16mm home movies made with his brothers, to time spent in iconic roles for blockbuster movies like Top Gun, The Doors, Tombstone, and Batman Forever. This raw, wildly original and unflinching documentary reveals a life lived to extremes and a heart-filled, sometimes hilarious look at what it means to be an artist and a complex man.

Val will premiere on Amazon on August 6th, 2021.

Val made a rare public appearance in 2019.
