Simone Biles & Team USA Are Not Walking in the Tokyo Olympics Opening Ceremony - Find Out Why!

Don’t expect to see Team USA gymnasts at the Tokyo Olympics Opening Ceremony.

The team of athletes, including superstar team captain Simone Biles, will not be walking in the opening celebration to kick off the Games, they confirmed on Friday (July 23).

In a post on Instagram, Simone shared a group photo of the team in their Ralph Lauren designer outfits.

“Our opening ceremony mix,” she wrote alongside Sunisa Lee, Jordan Chiles, Grace McCallum, Jade Carey and MyKayla Skinner.

The team, however, will not be walking in the ceremony as they are “focused on preparation” ahead of the women’s gymnastics qualifying round, a spokeswoman for USA Gymnastics told People.

Simone said they “did our own little walk outside where we are staying haha” in a follow-up Story, adding that they also skipped it for “COVID,” and the “amount of standing.”

“We start the following day, so it wouldn’t be smart,” she added.
