Pink Extends Offer To Pay For Norway's Women's Beach Handball Team Fines

Pink is standing up to an outdated practice that states women’s beach handball teams must wear bikini bottoms during their matches.

The 41-year-old musician and activist is calling out the practice and has offered to pay for the fines that were placed on Norway’s team during the European Beach Handball Championships this past week.

The Norwegian team were fined 150 Euros a piece, for a total of 1,500 Euros (around $1766 in US Dollars) for wearing shorts instead of bikini bottoms to play in the European Beach Handball Championships bronze medal match last weekend.

“I’m VERY proud of the Norwegian female beach handball team FOR PROTESTING THE VERY SEXIST RULES ABOUT THEIR ‘uniform’,” Pink wrote on her Twitter. “The European handball federation SHOULD BE FINED FOR SEXISM.”

She later added “Good on ya, ladies. I’ll be happy to pay your fines for you. Keep it up.”

According to the rules, “Female athletes must wear bikini bottoms… with a close fit and cut on an upward angle toward the top of the leg. The side width must be of a maximum of 10 centimeters.”

However, since the story went viral last week and many called the federation on it, EHF President Michael Wiederer said it was planning to make changes.

“I can confirm that the EHF will do all it can to ensure that a change of athlete uniform regulations can be implemented,” he shared in a statement. “Significant efforts will be made in order to further promote the sport in the best way possible for everyone, regardless of gender.”

Just recently, Pink bought an amazing new house!
