The director of Black Widow is opening up about a long-rumored cameo that didn’t make it into the film!

Director Cate Shortland spoke with GamesRadar and confirmed that the team at Marvel had discussed including another superhero in the movie, but ultimately decided against it.

Find out why inside…

Speculation that Robert Downey Jr. would reprise his role as Iron Man in Black Widow began in 2019 after a report from Deadline mentioned that it would be his final appearance as the superhero.

However, when asked about a cameo a year later in an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Robert denied his involvement, replying, “Right. Great. I mean, it would be nice if they notified me. Forewarned is forearmed.”

Cate confirmed that she had discussed including Iron Man or another Avengers star with the Marvel team and producer Kevin Feige, but they ultimately decided against it.

“Initially, there was discussions about everything, about all of the different characters,” Cate told the outlet. “What we decided was, and I think Kevin was really great, he said, ‘She doesn’t need the boys.’”

She added, “We didn’t want it to feel like she needs the support. We want her to stand alone. And she does.”
