Attendees at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival will have to undergo a rigid coronavirus testing process during their time at the event.
In a new article from Variety, they’ve outlined what all attendees who are attending must go through during the pandemic, and it includes being tested every 48 hours for COVID-19.

According to the site, one of the first things attendees will have to do is a spit test.
Administered and regulated by Biogroup, the saliva test will be the preferred method of checking for COVID.
Many theater goers have become frustrated with the test though, as it has to be all liquid and one reporter “witnessed a vial of spit being discarded because someone had coughed up a piece of food, thus contaminating the sample.”
Those who couldn’t provide enough saliva were given a traditional nasal swab test by a nurse.
While numbers are down across the world due to vaccinations, the Delta variant is still the cause of concern and Cannes has implemented many rules for festival goers during the event.
In one of the latest rules, that goes hand in hand with French law, says that those who gather indoors either must be vaccinated or show proof of a PCR test.
The European Union has a COVID-19 tracking system that after vaccinated, provides a bar code to each person. However, if you are not from Europe, you are considered not vaccinated because you don’t have one of them.
Those not from Europe and without a bar code are expected and will be tested for COVID-19 every 48 hours to enter the Palais, the building where scrappy producers set up tables to market their films.
However, if you’re just attending a screening, there’s no need for it, as France doesn’t require proof of vaccination inside movie theaters.
The 2021 Cannes Film Festival kicks off this week with Spike Lee as the Jury president.
