Spiral: From the Book of Saw is on top at the box office.
The Lionsgate film, which stars Chris Rock and Samuel L. Jackson, brought in $8.7 million in its opening weekend at the domestic box office, Deadline reported Sunday (May 16).
The movie was projected to come in at $10-$15 million, so it was a quieter opening than anticipated, especially given its $20 million production budget.

Nonetheless, it is the sixth time a Saw movie opened at No. 1 at the box office.
“We are still operating in a very limited marketplace,” noted Comscore’s Paul Dergarabedian of the smaller debut amid reopenings as pandemic restrictions loosen up.
The movie brought in an additional $3.3 million from 16 international territories, bringing its overall haul to $12 million.
In the movie, directed by Darren Lynn Bousman, a criminal mastermind unleashes a twisted form of justice.
