Jamie Foxx's New Netflix Sitcom Features a Meta-Moment for 'Dreamgirls' Fans!

Jamie Foxx currently has the number one show on Netflix with his new original series Dad Stop Embarrassing Me and there’s a moment in episode three that Dreamgirls fans are going to love!

For those that don’t remember, Jamie starred in the film adaptation of the classic Broadway musical, which was released back in 2006.

Jamie played Curtis Taylor Jr., the manager of The Dreams and the love interest of Jennifer Hudson‘s character Effie. When his affections go to Beyonce‘s Deena, Effie starts acting out and Curtis drops her from the group. The song “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going” takes place right after Curtis tells Effie that she’s out of the group.

Well, a meta-moment happened in Dad Stop Embarrassing Me! when Jamie‘s character Brian Dixon references Jennifer and that song.

Jamie Foxx and Kyla Drew in Dad Stop Embarrassing Me

While waiting in line for the new Yeezys shoes to drop, Brian tries to entertain his teenage daughter Sasha (Kyla-Drew) with some karaoke. He begins singing “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” and when he realizes that she’s not amused, he says he’s going to do the “Jennifer Hudson version.” He then starts singing the song in the style of “And I Am Telling You!”

Fans of Jamie and Dreamgirls will definitely get a kick out of that moment!
