There’s a new thriller movie on Netflix called Deadly Illusions and it has a crazy ending that is leaving lots of fans confused!
The film follows Kristin Davis, who plays Mary Morrison, a successful author who hasn’t written a book in years while she focuses on being a mother. When her husband (Dermot Mulroney) makes a bad business deal, they decide it’s time for her to accept an offer to write a new book. Her best friend (Shameless‘ Shanola Hampton) suggests that she hires a nanny to help care for the kids while she spends time writing.
Enter Grace, played by Awkward‘s Greer Grammer, who seems like the perfect nanny, but obviously things are not what they seem.

Throughout the movie, it’s not clear if things that are happening are real or if they are part of Mary’s imagination. She has said that her mind goes into dangerous places when she writes and it’s not until the end of the movie that she discovers that Grace is truly the dangerous one. We find out that Grace experienced trauma while growing up and now has a dissociative identity disorder that gives her two completely different personalities.
Mary’s friend Elaine ends up dead and we never are told who murdered her, though we’re to assume it was Grace. Grace then tries to kill Mary’s husband Tom, but Mary is able to stop her before it’s too late. A year later, we see that Mary and her family are safe and sound. She goes to a hospital and visits Grace, who seems to have the mind of a child now.
The final moments of the movie are what viewers are so confused by. We see “Mary” walking out of the hospital in the same outfit that Elaine’s killer was wearing in security footage from the scene of the crime. So, is that really Mary?!
Some theories are: it could really just be Mary wearing that outfit; it could be Grace in the outfit after murdering Mary and escaping the hospital; or maybe it’s Mary and she really was Elaine’s killer.

Deadly Illusions really isn't the greatest movie BUT I'm left baffled.
The ending is so open ended that I don't even know if any of it actually happened? Is the movie actually just the plot of the book and Mary dedicated it to Elaine who was already dead from the start?
