Shortly after Meghan Markle and Prince Harry revealed their plans to exit as senior members of the royal family in early 2020, they launched a website called “Sussex Royal.”
The Queen then explained that the couple would not be allowed to use the word “royal” in their future endeavors and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex released a statement shortly after in response.
The February 2020 statement, in part, read, “While there is not any jurisdiction by The Monarchy or Cabinet Office over the use of the word ‘Royal’ overseas, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex do not intend to use ‘Sussex Royal’ or any iteration of the word ‘Royal.’”
After the couple released that statement, Prince William was not happy.
“That was it for William, he felt they’d blindsided the Queen in such an insulting and disrespectful way,” a source told The Sunday Times.
