Matthew McConaughey is responding to speculation that he’s running for Governor of Texas!
The 51-year-old actor appeared on The Tonight Show on Friday (March 19) to discuss the relief benefit he’s hosting in Texas.
When Jimmy Fallon asked if it was true he was thinking about running for the position, Matthew said, “It’s something I’m giving consideration. Absolutely. What an honorable thing to even be able to consider.”
“I’m no further than that right now, Sir,” he added with a smile.
“Good answer,” Jimmy replied as Matthew laughed.
“‘You sound like a politician there McConaughey, good answer,’” Matthew joked.
He had previously expressed interest in running for Governor of Texas on an episode of Crime Stoppers of Houston’s “The Balanced Voice” podcast.
The actor also shared his experience weathering the recent Texas storm that left most of the state without power.
“We had a couple pipes break,” Matthew said. He added that while his family did have to boil water for a time, there are thousands in Texas currently struggling with worse.
The actor’s relief benefit will stream on YouTube and features performances Kelly Clarkson, Post Malone, Khalid, George Strait, Willie Nelson and many more. The event will benefit Matthew‘s “Just Keep Livin” relief fund and will air March 21 at 7PM CT.
It was recently revealed that Matthew may be reprising one of his iconic roles!
