Kate Middleton Meets Carer Len Gardner During Royal Train Trip After They Connected During Volunteer Phone Call

Kate Middleton walks and talks with Len Gardner outside his home during one of her and Prince William‘s train stops on Monday night (December 7) in Batley, England.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge made a special trip to his home to connect, after she and Len connected during the lockdown in England earlier this year.

It turns out that Kate was paired with Len as part of the Royal Voluntary Service’s connection initiative for carers. Len is a full time carer for his wife, Shirley, who has Alzheimer’s, and Len is also affected with bladder cancer.

Len opened up about his unique and treasured friendship with the future Queen with The Sun, saying, “I will treasure our conversations for the rest of my life. Those calls helped me because they gave me something to look forward to.”

He shared that while she spoke of her children – Princes George and Louis, and Princess Charlotte – Len told her all about his love of Italian food and cooking.

When asked if he made his own pasta, he told Kate that he didn’t have a pasta maker or the special flour needed to make the dough.

“About three days after our conversation, a brand-new pasta machine arrived from the Duchess. Two days later I got two kilos of ‘00’ (the Italian grading system) flour from Buckingham Palace,” he shared. “I can tell you, this lady you see on television that goes into the crowds and talks to people—what you see is what you get. She is a very, very nice person.”

“We spoke for about 40 minutes and I learned more about the Duchess’s children,” Len continued. “Apparently they have thousands of sheep down at Sandringham and her eldest children couldn’t understand how we get wool without killing the animal. So she took them down to the sheds to watch the sheep being sheared.”

He adds, “It was the sort of conversation I might have with anyone about their family. She didn’t mention William much. But I gabble on a lot.”

Kate and William, who also stopped by the Batley Community Centre, will conclude their royal train trip around the United Kingdom tomorrow, December 8.
