Britney Spears' boyfriend defends her 'scary' Instagram posts

Britney Spears' long-term boyfriend, Sam Asghari, has jumped to her defence after a writer criticised the pop star on social media.

Kelly Oxford, an author and screenwriter, commented on a recent video uploaded to Instagram by Spears, saying: "This account finally got too scary for me."

Asghari, a personal trainer who has been romantically involved with Britney since 2016, quickly replied to Oxford's comment. "What's so scary about being the biggest superstar in the world being herself (authentic, funny, humble) without caring what others think?" he wrote. "We need more people like her and less Karens. Also Instagram installed this button that you can hit to unfollow about 10 years ago..."

In the last year, Spears' Instagram has received widespread criticism. She regularly uploads videos of her dancing or showing off outfits, which is somewhat out of line with most other pop stars of her fame level. The star has defended her Instagram posts: "I get how some people might not like my posts or even understand them, but this is me being happy ….. this is me being authentic and as real as it gets," she wrote.

Like many other fans of Spears, it seems like Kelly Oxford is just concerned for Spears' mental health, and isn't just a random hater in the comment section. Recently the #FreeBritney movement has reached fever pitch, with fans around the world fighting to have the singer freed from the legal control of her father.

This isn't the first time that Oxford has posted online about Spears. A few months ago, she tweeted a link to a viral Instagram carousel with information about the history of Spears' conservatorship. "For anyone worried about Britney Spears, here is a link for you," she wrote. Though the Instagram info slides that she linked contain some accurate information, some long-term Britney fans claim that it wildly exaggerates aspects of the star's life, to make the conservatorship seem way worse than it is.

Earlier this week it was reported that Spears is now pushing to make her conservatorship case public. "Britney herself is vehemently opposed to this effort by her father to keep her legal struggle hidden away in the closet as a family secret," a lawyer states in court documents obtained by Page Six.
